Excellent Yorkshire Dales Accommodation
For Yorkshire Dales accommodation, Mike and Louise welcome you to the world famous Tan Hill Inn, 'On top of the World' in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Scroll below for our Tariffs and Offers.
We have a fantastic and truly unique opportunity for an individual / couple with an instinctive flair in hosting and entertaining our most valued customers at one of the UK’s most famous and iconic Pub, hotel and event management venues… Tan Hill Inn!
The job requires a very special person at one of the most isolated but beautiful locations in the UK. It is the highest pub in the UK at 1732ft amsl.
Don't worry! The place has been there many years and through experience we have managed to acquire our own weather station, snow plough, generator ( 24/7 ), our own water bore hole for water, and gas in huge tanks. The position would suit a self starter that has also a practical bent as you will be expected to gain a good understanding of how things work. However we have as you might expect, a good team of people around the place that can be called on in a crisis!
We are a very busy venue ( a Pub doesn't quite describe what we are ! ) and hold Weddings / Car Rallys / Festivals / Come Dine With Me evenings, and other wonderful events that you would be expected to manage, nurture, hold and develop. It is obvious you must be a very sociable character and have a high self discipline towards all aspects of management skills. If you don't, the place and the altitude will eat you up! These include, but are not restricted to, chef / kitchen management skills, staff management and recruitment where necessary. You must be able to work within agreed accounting budgets. A safe hand at cash management, a keen eye for customer satisfaction. Good housekeeping is essential.
On quiet days.... you should also be able to apply yourself to digital marketing via the web site, Facebook and Instagram, working steadily towards agreed new business targets by creating interest and designing events of which you will share financially in their success.
You never ever know what's going to happen at Tan Hill, it's such a unique experience. However in quiet times, and you do get them, you will be able to plan the year via these mediums. We have had many events over the last ten years or so. Some have fallen away uncared for. Your task will be to get them on track again.
It is also quite probable that at some point 100 people may turn up for a few beers via the coach load. Managing what could be a chaotic time should be second nature to you. Doing all of this with a sense of humour is essential to your sanity and those all around you.
Only when these things are done can you breath a sigh of relief and enjoy the most stunning views and enjoy the Tan Hill Inn that is characteristically called a monster, "the beast"
However we love it. We think you might too!
Mike and Louise took over the inn in 2005 and have been very successful, attracting many more customers and bringing their own personality to the business. They have undertaken an extensive programme of refurbishment and improvements to further enhance the excellent reputation and facilities of this unique and historic inn. However, its historic character remains - the bar is full of character with its open beams and stone-flagged floor, whilst a welcoming fire blazes in the grate every day of the year.
It is in the heart of real Walking Country and is on the Pennine Way, Britain's first long distance footpath, plus the popular Coast to Coast Walk. Both pass close by our door - and there are many excellent rambles throughout the area for all abilities. Many casual ramblers and ardent walkers gratefully pass over the threshold to enjoy our renowned hospitality. But the Tan Hill Inn has its own legendary spirit walker.....a ghost, that of a certain Mrs Peacock who ran the inn for 40 years! She is said to appear whenever alterations are being made, when she oversees the work!
The Tan Hill Inn is a very special place, occupying a lonely site, high in the Yorkshire Dales. It is in fact, the highest pub in Great Britain at 1,732ft above sea level. Here you will receive one of the warmest and most friendly welcomes that you could ever wish to find.
Countless generations have enjoyed its fine hospitality as an oasis of refreshment and accommodation amidst the beautiful heather-clad purple Pennine moorland capping the numerous green unspoilt Yorkshire dales. It possesses a long and rich history.
